Linda
Lichtman began a lifetime of writing and performing at age 7. After
dinner one night, in the large lobby of an old Borscht Belt hotel, she
began improvising as the Queen of England. Just walking through the
lobby spouting "Englishisms". This "seizure" continued
nightly either as the Queen, one of her other imaginary characters,
or ventriliquism attacks with her beloved Charlie McCarthy doll. However,
feeling a lot of pressure to find that "special someone",
Linda retired from show biz at age 8 to search for a husband.
Unsuccessful in her husband hunt, Linda re-entered the performing and
writing world as a comedy writer and standup comic, working in New York
at The Improv, Comic Strip and lots of little clubs. While studying
acting at the HB Studio with Horton Foote and the late Sandy Dennis,
she was cast in numerous theatrical productions including, Gert in "The
Sea Horse", Jesse Mae in "The Trip To Bountiful", Joan,
in "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and a number of origanal
works.
As a result of her standup work, Linda was "picked up" by
some men who were ONLY interested in her talent. They foisted her into
her next career as a radio personality for WNBC radio, the same station
as Howard Stern & Don Imus.
After writing a number of unproduced TV pilots and two produced plays,
Linda relented and began re-focusing her lackluster husband hunt to
the west coast in Los Angeles. But the theatre kept calling. Cast as
the strong but vulnerable mother, Kate, in Neil Simon's "Brighton
Beach Memoirs" (where she won Best Actress Award for the season)
Linda decided to forget her husband hunt and stick to writing and performing.
Linda was busy, engrossed in writing the story of her very first love
affair, which happened to be with a Jamaican gigolo, when she remembered
she was expected to attend some social function that evening. Alas,
she was out of clean underwear, so she turned off the computer and rushed
off to the local laundromat, where she ran smack into the very guy who
eventually became her beloved bridegroom.
Linda and her beloved continue living in LA, where she performs "The
Bride Can't Stop Coughing" in workshop form and is continually
writing and rewriting....til death do us part.........
